Job Opening: Mechanical and/or Electro-Mechanical Design Drafter or Designer

We have multiple openings for a Mechanical and/or Electro-Mechanical Design Drafter or Designer to support new and ongoing experiments and facilities for various programs at LLNL’s Site 200 and Site 300 (Tracy, CA). You will provide design and drafting support including electronic and mechanical design, drawing and data management of complex control/diagnostic systems and subsystems. You will support the Firing Area Test Facilities and Nuclear Weapon Engineering (NWE) Stockpile Support Test Facilities. These positions are in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED)/Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program, supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general mechanical or electro-mechanical drafting and design support
  • Perform basic calculations to support technical work 
  • Process drawings and technical information
  • Maintain systems documentation and experimental records
  • Provide graphics and related technical material 
  • Review completed drawings for adherence to LLNL drafting standards

Additional Responsibilities at the 534.3 Level:

  • Provide advanced mechanical or electro-mechanical design and drafting support
  • Contribute to preliminary design concepts 
  • Estimate scheduling and costs 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications Required:

  • Associate degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Drafting 
  • Intermediate knowledge of drafting standards and procedures 
  • Ability to solve technical problems 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Additional Qualifications at the 534.3 Level:

  • Advanced knowledge of drafting standards 
  • Proficient use of CAD software 
  • Advanced understanding of electrical and mechanical design principles 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using PTC Creo, AutoCAD, and database management software
  • Experience using PTC Windchill PDMLink design software

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
