The Product Design team designs, validates, and brings new products to market.; designs, tests, and integrates components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Collaborates with internal partners to optimize designs for manufacturability. Uses CAD/CAE systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.

This role in summary

As an Associate Designer at Whirlpool, you will help conceptualize and develop new products for a global large-scale product portfolio, assisting with the creation of on-product graphic systems and their application, closely working with UX, ID, and CMF stakeholders within the Design organization but also seeking alignment through Engineering and Marketing areas. Intrinsically grounded in our brands’ strategy, you will also build and update Visual Brand Language Guidelines, create sub-brands’ logos and other branded graphic assets, besides creating final artwork for printing regularly.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Conceptualize and develop on-product graphic systems in collaboration with UX (User Experience), ID (Industrial Design), and CMF (Color, Material, Finish) stakeholders.
  • Generate final artwork for printing, ensuring accuracy and quality in accordance with brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Marketing teams to ensure consistency and coherence across branded design elements, while addressing technical requirements and market positioning.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of our Visual Brand Language Guidelines, ensuring adherence to brand standards and guidelines.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in graphic design, incorporating new ideas and techniques into design projects to reflect evolving brand standards.
  • Participate and mediate design reviews to gather feedback and refine design work based on stakeholders’ inputs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve design challenges and achieve project objectives effectively and efficiently.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor (or higher) degree in Graphic Design or related field.
  • Experience in Graphic Design or related fields.
  • Compelling portfolio demonstrating creativity and brand consistency when working with graphic design assets.
  • High level of proficiency using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Solid project planning skills.
  • Understanding of color separations, silk, and other printing methods would be highly appreciated.
  • Experience working with typography and editorial projects would be highly appreciated.
  • Experience in the industrial environment and with consumer products would be highly appreciated.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials would be highly appreciated.
