Formation Games is an independent game studio building sports titles. We are formed of an experienced & entrepreneurial team with backgrounds spanning mobile and live service on AAA & BAFTA winning games as well as Football. Our first title, CLUB is a free-to-play mobile football experience, enabling football fans around the World to step into the shoes of a football club owner. After a successful closed beta on iOS & Android, the Soft Launch of CLUB into geo-specific markets in the coming months is our unwavering focus.

The role

In support of the Creative Director and Game Lead, the Lead UI/UX Designer oversees the creative execution of the UI/UX design direction for CLUB, ensuring we create a best-in-class experience that meets the demands and expectations of our Target Audience and Target Platforms.  

The Lead UI/UX Designer fosters a culture of data-informed decision-making through User Research and game analytics and collaborates with the Technology team to help define tools, pipelines and workflows, driving change and continuous improvement across UI/UX.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director & Art Director in developing new and exciting features for CLUB.
  • Champion mobile-first UI/UX design practices in the studio.
  • Drive the UI/UX team + outsourcers to create production-standard assets with cohesive styling.
  • Produce UI designs & required assets of a consistently high quality that raise the bar on football gaming experiences.
  • Communicate work through site maps, user flows and early-stage wireframes to high-res mock-ups for production.
  • Create state-of-the-art visual design and UI art.
  • Create high-fidelity mockups and pre-vis.
  • Design, create and implement functional animation for user interactions.
  • Guide the overall look, feel and flow of features.
  • Analyse & process user research data into actionable improvements.
  • Set examples, guides, and methodologies in UI/UX for the wider team and partners.
  • Participate in planning sessions, user research debriefs, product reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Stay updated with competitor and mobile products, features, and industry trends to incorporate them into the design process.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Design, Art, and Engineering) to deliver on the Product Vision.

Recommended Experience

  • Strong understanding of key UI design principles.
  • Excellent UI/UX experience in the mobile space.
  • Natural flair for producing high-quality, visually appealing UI assets.
  • Proven record of crafting engaging, intuitive user experiences.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a close-knit team.
  • Experience with prototyping software such as Figma, Adobe XD and Miro.
  • Experience implementing UI assets in Unity or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of colour theory, layout and typography.
  • Proven ability to adapt and adhere to an established visual style and build upon it.
  • An accomplished expert with UI layout & design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, Sketch, Invision, Adobe CC, UXPin or similar tools).
  • Experienced with prototyping design software - (Figma preferable, but Sketch, MarvelApp or similar tools ok too) and the prototype development process.
  • Experience designing apps based on Material Design and iOS Human Interface Design Guidelines.
  • Motion experience is nice to have.
  • A passion for football is also nice to have.

Location Requirements

  • Remote - Our office is based in London so being able to regularly travel to the city for collaboration and on-sites is a bonus.
  • Regular hours to maximise collaboration with the team.
