Assistant Professor of Design Position at SIUC
The School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Design, tenure-track faculty position. Review of applications will begin November 18th, 2024. The position is listed as “open until filled”, however applications received by Nov 18, will receive priority consideration. This position is a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position beginning August 12, 2025.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
The ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in graphic design with a depth of knowledge in at least one area: app development, web design, AI, digital media, motion graphics, UX/UI, or branding/market strategy. The successful applicant will augment faculty expertise in the undergraduate and graduate design curriculum, and the Design Research Studio. This position requires the ability to collaborate between graphic design, industrial design, art, and business. The new faculty member will teach, advise, and mentor students at all levels of the Graphic Design BFA and MFA programs with options for teaching in other areas.
Duties
Examples of Duties include:
- Conducting ongoing peer-reviewed creative research
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate level design courses
- Providing service within a design team environment
- Participating in school, university, community, and professional service
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Primary consideration will be given to applicants with a terminal degree MFA, M.Des that required at least 60 semester hours, or Ph.D., in Design, Graphics Design, Visual Communication Design, Motion Design, Interaction Design, or a closely related discipline. Applicants who are still in graduate programs but have exceptional work and demonstrated abilities to succeed in peer-reviewed research outcomes are strongly encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing future-related design approaches
- College-level teaching above a graduate appointment
- Documented Design Research working with or focused on underrepresented/marginalized communities
