Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Designer to join our team for Phase 2 of our market-based sanitation project with World Vision. In this role, you will be instrumental in creating rapid prototypes, visual materials, and marketing assets for testing and iteration. You will collaborate closely with the team of researchers and designers, to prototype, test, refine strategies and develop compelling visual elements to support our objectives.

What you will be doing:

  • Generate rapid prototypes for three testing fieldworks, utilizing various mediums such as sketches, rough videos, audios, photomontages, and mood boards to convey ideas effectively.
  • Create visuals for toilet design and brand identity to be tested, with a focus on layout design, logo design, and illustration. Utilize tools such as Canva and Adobe suite proficiently.
  • Possess some experience or understanding of marketing principles to support the development of marketing materials and strategies.
  • Iterate prototypes based on insights and learnings gathered from testing, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with project goals.
  • Develop final marketing materials for the pilot in Phase 3, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding.
  • Create a comprehensive sales toolkit including business sales materials to support the marketing and distribution of the sanitation products.
  • Lead the development of the toilet brand, ensuring it resonates with target audiences and effectively communicates product value.
  • Work closely with the design team to align designs with project direction and objectives, incorporating feedback and insights into iterations.
  • Ideally, be involved in field testing alongside designer/researchers to gather feedback on prototypes firsthand and inform design iterations accordingly.

Requirements

The type of experience that we are looking for:

  • At least 3 years work experience in research and/or design in the social sector
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other relevant design tools.
  • Strong skills in prototyping, 3D modeling, and developing communication campaigns. Ability to produce quick deliverables such as reports and action plans.
  • Bonus, if familiar with engineering software like AutoCad, Soildworks, matlab, etc.
  • Skilled using project management tools like Google Suite or Asana
  • Strong creative and conceptual thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Familiarity with principles of human-centered design and user research methodologies is a plus.
  • High proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking
  • High proficiency in Nyanja reading, writing and speaking
  • BONUS POINTS if you are experienced in:
    • working in the social innovation and consultancy work
    • ability to speak and write Lenje, to facilitate communication with local stakeholders.
