The Team

Our Mobile Apps Platform team is responsible for the core architecture, infrastructure, operational practices, and design governance that enable our Candidate Domain teams to deliver high quality mobile experiences for our SEEK, Jobsdb, and Jobstreet apps. Our ambition is to deliver world class apps that delight our candidates by enabling teams to build consistent, beautiful, reliable, and secure apps at scale. About the role

As the Lead Engineer (Apps Design) you will play a key leadership role in the delivery of design system practices, standardized UI components, and frameworks that will empower our teams to create seamless and fabulous mobile experiences for our iOS and Android platforms. Through your deep passion for elegant UI design and delivery of scalable intuitive frameworks, you will lead our engineering, product, and design teams to translate our design ambition into beautiful and engaging experiences for our customers. You will identify new opportunities that can redefine our design system, incorporate new trends in iOS/Android user-interaction, and apply inclusive design that can elevate the user experience offered through our platform. You will also manage the growth and career development of software engineers, improve engineering practices of the team, and drive an inclusive team culture, encouraging of learning and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of the design system, front-end architecture, UI frameworks, and governance processes to maintain a consistent and cohesive experience in alignment with SEEK’s design language.
  • Lead the design and implementation of frameworks, APIs, and tooling that is easy to use, robust, scalable, and highly performant.
  • Drive innovation by identifying new opportunities to adopt emerging technologies, design system trends, and platform interaction patterns.
  • Partner with delivery, design, product, and cross-platform technical leaders to strategize, plan, and implement technical roadmaps, goals and milestones that can deliver on SEEK’s design vision.
  • Advocate and lead the adoption of technology, design, and delivery best practices such as inclusive design principles (accessibility), agile delivery, dev ops, and platform engineering.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • You have strong understanding of native app design language (Google Material Design, Apple Human Interface Guidelines), accessibility standards, and cross-platform design.
  • You have a critical eye for design, like to sweat the details, and push the level of craft in the apps and design system, valuing polished, delightful, intuitive, and engaging experiences.
  • You have extensive experience leading engineers or multi-functional teams to create frameworks, UI components, APIs, and practices used by other teams to deliver sophisticated front-ends for mobile apps.
  • Proven experience leading, building, and scaling comprehensive design systems, front-end architecture, and component libraries for Android and/or iOS platforms.
  • You will have a track record facilitating the roll out of visual languages and implementing strategies to maintain cohesive and consistent visual style across mobile apps.
  • Your strong facilitation and mentoring skills have allowed you to educate engineering teams on design practices, the adoption and implementation of the design system, engineering practices, and accessibility standards.
  • You are the go-to person when it comes to standardizing UI components, achieving design consistency, designing components, and streamlining collaboration between engineering and design teams.
  • You are passionate and interested in supporting career development, capability growth, and coaching of people.
  • You are a humble team member, with proven track record to build relationships and connect people across multiple teams and partners.
